Kazushi Sakuraba - autobio from page 2+

Post by WilemanUK on Mon Nov 01, 2010 12:58 am

I Found This On mmavista.com And Thought I Should Post This:

I was watching some Kazushi Sakuraba highlights today, and though he notably declined, and fairly rapidly in both health and ability after his fight with Vitor Belfort, I feel I need to remind some folks of just how good he was.

Kazushi Sakuraba:

-stood with PRIME Mirko Cro Cop (230) and got the better of several of the exchanges on the feet

-submitted 2 Gracies with the same hold, beat two more down without ever being in danger and almost submitted the HW Ralek Gracie a few months back despite fighting years past his sellby date.

-Was the first fighter to beat Vitor Belfort (205) on the feet, the first fighter to drop Vitor and the first fighter to utilize the spinning back kick in a high level match.

-Was the first fighter to drop Wanderlei Silva in PRIDE.

-Submitted a slam happy Quinton Rampage Jackson (205) and Kevin Randleman (205) along with the monstrous Conan Silveira (230)

-Became the first and only Asian UFC HW champion, along with the smallest.

-Took Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (205) to a decision in a fight of the year candidate where he often got the better of the Pan American boxing champion on the feet.

-Fought Yoshihiro Akiyama on the arse end of his career, with a greased up opponent, a paid off ref, a knuckleduster worn under Akiyama's glove and the referee still had to stop the fight early because Saku caught an armbar.

-Fought the longest match in mma history at the inaugral PRIDE open weight GP, beating Royce Gracie by TKO as his corner were forced to conceed defeat - THEN went on to take a 15 minute fight with IGOR FREAKING VOVCHANCHYN (205) in the same night.

Along with reinventing the way the back position and turtle are viewed, ending the Gracie legend and popularizing the cartwheel guard pass and low single.

And all at a weight (without western cutting efforts) of 180lbs. Looking at his checkered record it can be hard for some people to understand just how he can be considered one of if not THE greatest fighter of all time, but his accomplishments really are hard to come close to.

Whoever wrote that article did a good job, but should have had the first point read like this... -UFC champion!! Won ULTIMATE JAPAN and then stayed in japan cause the competition was much more challenging over there in those times, saku is like rampage he has/had nothing left to prove, just unlike Quinton he has nothing left to prove for a solid decade now!!

I'm sorry, but that's pure Bs.
I think you can write a good assessment of Saku's career without having to lie.

One of the best fighter ever. He was probably best fit for a 180 class that never existed for him.

knuckle duster is complete BS, he was greased though.....as for belfort, that was def a fix, belfort pratically did nothing the whole fight.
Not saying saku knew about it, but if u can watch that fight and say that belfort was trying to win, ur an unusual person
