Re: Fedor Ended Ishii's Career.

When Fedor Emelianenko rocked Satoshi Ishii and sent him to the hospital, the initial worry was about a broken nose. In the post-fight chatter, the blood was discussed as a factor in changing Ishii’s psychology during the fight. For some fighters, seeing their own blood can spook them. What Satoshi Ishii didn’t know when he got rattled by Fedor is that it may have very well been his last fight ever.

Putting the cherry on top of the proverbial sundae, Japanese weekly publication Cyzo (which has been on a very good run this month for fight business stories) reports that doctors have told Ishii that he suffered a cerebral edema from the NYE beating. As a result, he was warned that any further blows to the head would cause some serious damage. As Cyzo put it, Ishii is facing a retirement crisis. There had been some discussion that he would face Ricardo Arona in late March in Brazil but that fight didn’t look to be in the cards. After this latest development, the MMA prospects for Ishii look to be bleak as well.

Fuck yeah it is, worse is the amount of people that hated Ishii. Guy deserves all the good will he can get right now.

This is fucked up, even though I dislike Ishii fighting style but I wish him the best recovery.

Goes to show what kind iron chin and heart Jeff Monson has. Fedor hit him with like 10 of those right straights and broke his leg and still Monson didnt quit. Monson also took bombs from Cormier and didnt quit. Definitely a G.

Serious injuries and deaths happen in Boxing (especially in Japan... What a surprise lol) because of fights like these... MMA isn't too different

Feel bad for Ishii.
Even if he was fed to the wolves just like every other high profile Japanese athlete, he looked like he was finally starting to turn his career around.

Generally guys get injured/killed from sustained beatings, not from a 1 minute fight in which they're knocked out with a solid combination.

I'm certainly no neurologist, but based on the circumstances and the normal pattern I wouldn't be surprised if it was a pre-existing injury, sustained in training or something, and punctuated by the KO loss.

I cant believe how these zombies try to discredit Fedor's win by disrespecting Ishii.

They are actually calling Ishii a can and a mis match yet its these idiots who wanted Fedor to fight an even bigger mismatch in Brock Lesnar.

Ishii has pretty much the same number of fights as Brock Lesnar, Ishii has far better fighting and grappling experience and achievements, and Ishii handled being punched far better than Brock.

Ishii also weighed in as a HW and was only about 18lbs difference between him and Fedor. Fedor on the other hand is normally outweighed by 30lbs to 60lbs in his fights (something like a middle weight fighting against a HW which would make Fedor's achievement even more spectacular).

The following article appeared about a half-hour ago. Ryo Chonan calls the story a lie.

http://news.searchina.ne.jp/disp.cgi?y=2012&d=0131&f=national_0131_247.shtml

Translation (by me):
"Satoshi Ishii's health is good" - Reports of imminent retirement angrily denounced

A report circulated on Janurary 30th that Satoshi Ishii, who was briefly in the hospital following a KO loss to Fedor, was facing imminent retirement after having been found suffering from a brain disorder. As appeared in the report, "one theory is 'cerebral endema', it has been said." Ishii was therefore thought to be in a serious condition [i.e. by fans, etc].

However, this rumor was vehemently denounced by DEEP middleweight champ Ryo Chonan. On twitter, he posted that "Satoshi Ishii is just fine;" further, "the people who spread these false rumors about other people's lives and livlihoods should just die," he also tweeted.

This is not in itself a complete debunking of the rumor. However, being that it comes from someone close to Ishii, it clearly may be regarded with an air of credibility. In response to these posts, some relieved fan messages were as follows: "Good news, I'm glad Ishii is not really retiring"; "We have good news for now"; etc.
