The Chris Eubank & Nigel Benn thread of legend

Post by Fletch on Fri Dec 23, 2011 5:26 am

"Chilling confidence" ~Sir Reg Gutteridge on Eubank
"The Ego Has Landed" ~Sir Reg when Eubank vaulted into the ring
"Warrior... champion of champions" ~on Benn after McClellan fight

First up, the legendary contract signing on TV. "This man is intolerable, he has NO CLASS. I do not tolerate such people" ~Eubank, with Benn next to him

The best fight of 1990 imo, every bit as good as Thunder Meets Lightning

Brilliant preview, wish they still did this shit in England. PRIME TIME TV special before the big fight.

And just a tack on, it would be rude to not include this when Benn was a 10/1 underdog and the best fighter from America came over to beat him, everyone betting it would occur in round 1. (McClellan was more feared than Toney and Jones Jr at the time, and had beaten Roy in the ammys).

And one for Eubank, arguably his best fight. Crazy that even though there was Benn/Eubank I, that both men possibly had a better fight in their careers with other men.

Two boxing Gods and Hall of Fame fighters. Fuck Benn's post-McClellan so called Collins losses, and Eubank's robbery losses to Collins 2x and Thompson 2x, and a young Calzaghe. They are 40-2 and 45-1 respectively in my eyes and always will be.

SIMPLY THE BEST

THE DARK DESTROYER

GODS

You forgot to add the part where Nigel Benn literally only won because the ref saved him in the first and when he headbutted McClellan (after teh headbutt his eye started winking and stopped fighting a few rounds after that)

You missed the part where "big Benn" ( Wink ) beat McClellan into a coma, winning a thrilling GOAT contender war.

You missed the part where Eubank and Benn stood in the trenches and threw ungodly bombs for the masses. These men are legends. Respect them, yank, for we will never witness combat sports quite this epic again.

Collins destroyed Benn twice.
Benn could only stay in the ring for a total of 10 rounds out of 24 with Collins.

Benn was a tough guy brawler, Collins was a tougher guy brawler.
