95 % of MMA fans do not train any martial art or even hit the gym

Post by Croatia K1 on Sat Jul 16, 2011 4:28 am

Just wondering why this is, I tried to have a discussion about muscle mass and body types on Sherdog comparing GSP and Anderson. Thread had nothing to do with who would win the fight.

Just simply strength and power and bodyfat percentage, basically saying judging by eye, GSP is about 8 % , Anderson is about 11-12 % then I get the stupidest fucking responses like, source? proof? and all this shit when it's fucking obvious as hell

And in terms of pure gym strength like deadlifts, squats, benchpress and so on I've got morons telling me that Anderson is stronger, they simply look at the numbers oh this guy fights at MW, this guy fights at WW, therefore the bigger guy is stronger... what a load of bullshit, GSP is physically stronger than most if not all MW's and some LHW's like Jardine, Mousasi and so on.

The only other sport I follow is soccer and everyone I know who is a fan has at some stage in their life played and knows how to play, knows tactics, technique and the game planning, formations etc..

I feel like I'm talking to retards 90 % + of the time, just thought the MMA community would be more involved with physical activity.. martial arts, gym, maybe sports of some type and would know the difference in bodytypes and shapes.. next thing these retards will probably tell me that @ 265 lbs Stefan Struve would be stronger than a 250 lbs Shane Carwin.

Sherdog is a bunch of white nerds who make threads about fashion and post pictures of hiking shoes

I tried to rub my ears to look like "the Natural" Roger Couture, but it started to sting, so I had to stop.

I am 35 yrs old. I trained from the time I was 8, first art was judo, until the time that I was 25. I earned a couple black belts in traditional karate by the time I was 18. I studied many art forms after that when I realized teh limits of many traditional arts. Ive been watching worldwide martial arts contests for decades & MMA since the very beginning. My first experience with online MMA was when I signed up to TT just over a year ago.

There are a ton of other people like me, thousands. They just dont post on Shedog or anywhere else.

i trained 2-3 times a week, and lifted weights 2-3 times a week (before i broke my tailbone a few months ago). and i don't know shit about the intricacies of weightlifting, bodyfat %, etc. all i know is - pump iron, drink protein shakes, and eat meat. but i see where youre coming from, a LARGE majority of the mma community think they know what theyre talking about when they have absolutely no experience in training/lifting.

Can't remember who posted it the other day but they summed it up perfectly. They said "it took a reality show to make the UFC popular, and a professional wrestler to keep it going." That's it right there. I think the UFC is going to have to try to make the sport mainstream for it to continue. Right now most fans are just blue collar, hillbilly sheep. Sad but true...

I also find incredibly hilarious how most people think it's a debate as to whether GSP is on steroids. Anybody who has any knowledge of steroids can tell you the UNMISTAKABLE signs of him being on juice.

I guess I'm in that minority 5% of fans that train on a regular basis.

Thats pretty much all you need anyways if you get into the details of it, you learn about calorie distribution, maintaining, cutting and bulking, roughly you need 1-1.5 gram of protein per lb of lean body mass ( roughly, basically if you're a small guy, get 150 g of protein, medium sized man, get 200 grams and a big guy get 250 )

Many people make the mistake of fats being bad, trans and poly fats are good for the body, saturated is not. etc etc..

Calories = weight gain, if you eat 10 bananas, 10 apples, 10 oranges and 10 pears per day and don't train YOU WILL GET FAT, regardless of the fact that you're eating fruits because you're calore intake will be 3000 + and you are only burning maybe 2200.

I'm just starting to rant now and it's not going to end up going anywhere but anyways, like Hooligan posted I got involved with Karate at the age of 9, then TKD from about 10-16, then weights since highschool finished and finally found a really good mma school near where i live last year.

It just pisses me off when I say that GSP is more cut than Anderson and has a lower bodyfat % that some fucking reject who is posting from his office computer where he makes $11 per hour by being a secretary will reply with ''source?'' or ''proof?'' fucking shits me so bad. Don't take my word for it, but don't dispute it either unless you are knowledgeable in the field.

It would be like me going into the boxing forum now and arguing with posters on a topic I have very little information on. It's just annoying really.
