UK, what the fuck happened?

Post by Donowaman on Sat Jul 31, 2010 2:09 am

You guys produced some of the best catch wrestlers there were, and now you're known for second rate MMA strikers.

What gives?

Bisping and the bunch.

Daley's the only really decent one.

Ive never met someone who did catch wrestling. Most places they teach kickboxing/judo here are just aimed at little kids really. Also, MMA isnt that popular and people who know of it think its Cage Fighting for crazy psychos or something. All these factors means the British GOAT is

Michael
Bisping

Give it time. UK MMA will evolve, but we will always be predominantly strikers as that's is our bread and butter. I would love to see some British catch wrestlers have take a shot at MMA however. Although I don't even know anything about the wrestling scene in this country.

I can certainly see a UK fighter ending up like GSP soon. Someone who comes from a decent MMA country, but ends up being a massive star.

Ross Pointon is the UK GOAT, fuck all you noobs

cheers

Dono, I've wondered this too.... but consider that England is probably the #3 nation for Muay Thai, behind Thailand and Holland, and the fact that modern day boxing came from England too, and it should become a little clearer.... GB is striking land, and fighting on the ground - and even kicking, to some people - is considered an "unmanly" way of fighting.... in the land of stand and bang, machismo gets in the way of a good bit of catch!!!!!

I'd love to see catch wrestling schools here though.... but I'm not holding my breath. I'd settle for a Gracie academy near/in Leeds

What about the Aspull wrestling club.
Word is its the reincarnation of the infamous Billy Rilleys Snake Pit !
Me hears one can learn quite a bit of Catch-as-Catch-can style wrestling dere.
(there is also a Snake Pit Japan opend by Billy Robinson)

There is also a differance between American and Brithish CACC stylists..mainly on takedowns and little submission tid bits.
